8/21 Huntington Beach State Park, S.C.

Spending 2 evenings at Huntington Beach State Park. It's about 18 miles south of Myrtle Beach,S.C.. The beach is just as wonderful but doesn't have the crowds of Myrtle Beach.

We've been avoiding cooking meals due to the heat but have found some pretty good microwave meals to make up for it.

Seen our 1st palm trees of the trip today as well as warnings about alligators.

Myrtle Beach

Walked to the beach around 9 AM this morning while it was fairly cool. Nicest day in quite a while. Temps were bearable, the humidity was lower and there was a pleasant breeze. The sand on the beach was nice and fine and the water temp was pleasantly warm.   A person could get used to this.

Drove into Myrtle Beach to see what we were missing. What we missed were high rise hotels, pay to park for beach access, arcades, gift shops and all the other accouterments of  a popular tourist destination in a bid to persuade one to part with their money.  It may be nirvana for some, just not our cup of tea.

We did see an alligator in the marsh next to the causeway on the park access road this morning, though. Pretty cool to see one in the wild.

I figure that we're somewhere around 550 miles from Chris and Missy, and Bridgette's place. I imagine that we'll arrive sometime late this week or perhaps even next week unless we stop at some other interesting places along the way. Looking forward to seeing them soon.

    1. Yeah the beach was awesome this morning. Ideal conditions for strolling. I can understand why you enjoy it so much. Can't say that we saw a great deal of shells though. Of course there were some but I expect just not in the numbers that you see along the gulf coast.
