9/12 Ute Lake SP

North of Tucumcari, NM. Park isn't much to write home about. Lots of litter around the sites and fire pits. There's tons of burrs in the sites so we need to check the dogs paws after they've been outside as well as the soles of our flip-flops to prevent getting them in the carpet and then stepping on them while bare-footed (insert ouch here).

 Just outside of Amarillo we drove by Cadillac Ranch. It's the place were someone has buried the front end of several Cadillacs with the remainder of the car jutting out of the ground at an angle. Silly us, didn't even stop for a picture,  but trust me, we did see it, honest.  A pretty windy drive today. Transmission was in 4th gear for much of the day so I wont expect stellar gas mileage from this tank. Wind must be a normal occurrence in that area or else they grow wind turbines as a cash crop, they were one after the other as far as you could see for miles on end. The highway was flat and straight and seemed to go on forever.The 1st part of the drive we saw primarily crop land and a couple of ginormous cattle feedlots (insert pee yew here). The latter part we saw mainly scrub land.
We'll head up I25N tomorrow but haven't picked out a stopping place yet. There doesn't seem to be many state parks along that route but we'll be looking for one between 150 and 200 miles out.

Oh, today was a good day. We added another hour to our lives with the time zone change.

9/11 Copper Breaks SP

Between Wichita Falls and Amarillo. Just for 1 night then heading for Ute Lake SP near Tucumcari, NM.
Todays view from the window included quite a few large, expensive looking horse farms, oil wells, long horn cattle, wide open spaces filled with scrub brush, and even a quick peek at a road runner.

9/10 Sanders Cove RV park

Just a few miles north of Paris, TX and south of Oklahoma.  Spent last night here and will stay tonight also. It's a COE park so only water and electricity hook ups. It's a good day to sit tight because the winds would have made driving miserable.  I hope they let up by tomorrow. We may drive the car into Paris and look at the replica of the Eiffel Tower.

On yesterday's drive we saw where a train had derailed sometime in August. The cars were crushed pretty bad.  It was about 30 miles east of Texarkana next to Hwy 82. Crews were still working at the site. After some searching I found that 37 cars carrying frac sand and steel coils derailed.

Today was the 1st day in  weeks that we were able to keep the windows open for fresh air rather than using the AC. 

Heading for Copper Breaks SP between Wichita Falls and Amarillo tomorrow. Winds have subsided now.

9/8 Crossett Harbor RV Park

In SE Arkansas outside of Crossett, AR. We're back west of the Mississippi River. Will be in Texas tomorrow. Heading towards Sanders Cove campground, a COE (Army corps of engineers) park north of Paris, Texas.

9/7 Lake Lowndes SP

Near New Hope, Mississippi.  We're just a mile or so west of the Alabama border. Easy drive today so plan on driving again tomorrow to Crossett Harbor RV park in Arkansas,  just a tad bit north of the Louisiana border.
We'll be back west of the Mississippi River tomorrow.

9/5 Wind Creek SP

Near Alexander City, AL. for possibly 2 nights. Huge park by most SP standards, in excess of 500 sites. We gained an hour when we crossed into AL from GA so we showed up here just as everyone was packing up to go home after the holiday weekend.  I don't expect to have much difficulty finding sites now that summer is over and school has started.

We drove by Ft Benning on the way here today.  Saw quite a few large pecan groves. There were several road kill armadillos which surprised me, didn't know they lived in this area.

I just checked the odometer and we've put about 6500 miles on the MH since starting out 2 1/2 months ago.

Picked up some tupelo honey and orange blossom honey the other day and had them on toast this morning. Mmmmm good.

I'm thinking that we may head towards Albuquerque before pointing it north for the home stretch.  We'll see. 

Everything is going well. The MH is humming along real nice and no real problems to speak of. Knock on wood.  The vehicles could both use a bath but washing them is prohibited in most all parks.

This park has asphalt parking pads and we have full hookups so we're enjoying that. It has a completely different feel once the holiday crowd left. It's nice and peaceful and no one else parked within several hundred feet of us now.

Headed towards Lowndes SP near Columbus, MS on Wednesday. 

9/3 Reed Bingham SP

Near Adel, GA for 2 nights. Finally found a home for the remainder of the holiday weekend and it filled up after we arrived.  Quite a bit of rain on the way up from Tampa and of course after the rain stopped we started hitting those infamous love bugs that are notorious for making a huge mess of the windshield and are difficult to remove.
O'Leno SP in Florida never didn't open for us to use sp we pushed on. It was a high milage day for me, about 290ish miles.

We were more than ready to move on. The constant rain and dealing with the sandy  ground were wearing on us.

Had a couple nice visits with Chris and Missy and enjoyed their wonderful hospitality but the weather situation prevented us from seeing Bridgette on the day the she had available.  I was looking forward to driving the Sunshine Skyway bridge to St Pete but they closed it due to high winds and poor visibility from the driving rains on the tail end of what became Hurricane Hermine. Fortunately for us it made landfall a long way north of the Tampa area.
