July 21 Au Gres, Michigan City Park

Drove into Sault Ste Marie yesterday to see the Soo Locks. Lots of security around the locks area. I was surprised  at the low ship  traffic. We only saw 1 large ship that I assumed was an ore carrier that had just transited.  I guess that I was expecting a line of ships waiting to pass through. In 1 day in the Upper Peninsula you can put your toes in Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, and Lake Huron.

We drove over the Mackinac toll bridge this morning. It's 1 of the longer spans that I've crossed. Toll was $14. That's $5 per axle on the MH and $4 for the car.

On edit: more Mackinac bridge data.
It's the 5th longest suspension bridge in the world at 26,300 ft + and the deck is 199 ft above the water.

It was a another windy day of driving as we followed the western shore of Lake Huron on HWY 23 all day before stopping here in Au Gres,  It's pronounced "awe gray". Of course just as we pulled into town a thunderstorm opened up on us so I was pretty wet after unhooking the car. MI. We'll hunker down here for the weekend and enjoy the full hook ups. We're just a couple of blocks from Saginaw Bay so we'll explore the marina area near us tomorrow.

Didn't get much sleep Saturday night. There was a wedding party in the Lions Club community building a hundressed feet or so from our campsite and the music went well into the wee hours. At the very least it would have been nice to have been invited. :)

  1. Oh, u r so good to me😊. Is there like navel base around the area. I'm just wondering if maybe Buvy had basic or was stationed in the area. Cuz of course Mom had pics of grandpa and grandma Haskin, Mom, Velma, Lloyd, Cecil and Buvy who was in uniform.
Am I the only one writing you?

    1. The only thing that comes up in a search is Great Lakes Naval Base on the west shore of Lake Michigan near Waukegan,IL.
You do see all of the comments that are made. Some others correspond via e-mail, text, and IM. Don't feel that you need to respond to my posts unless you'd like to. I started the blog primarily as a way for friends and relatives to have some what of an idea where we're at any given time and where we might be heading if we know. According to the blog stats, it gets probably 20 views per post but few comments as you can see. E-mail and text works just fine for me 2 way conversations too.
Hope your charter works out for you and Grant tomorrow.
